Salvador da Bahia, Brazil
Introduction
Salvador is the country's third largest city after Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The Portuguese settlers established Salvador as Brazil's first capital in 1549. The Portuguese colonial section of old town called Pelourinho district has a unique vibe with its cobble-stoned streets and bright color buildings. My first trip to Salvador was in 1999 and over the years I have visited Salvador a few times. You can get a feel of Salvador da Bahia from some of our pictures and videos below.

Where is Salvador da Bahia?
How Did We Get There?
Most international travelers will arrive at the SSA International Airport (Luis Eduardo Magalhaes). We prepaid for a taxi ride to our hotel in Rio Vermelho. The cost of the taxi ride was R$100 ($30) and it took us approximately 45 minutes to get to the hotel due to heavy traffic.

Where Did We Stay?
We stayed at the Mercure Salvador Rio Vermelho, Rua Fonte do Boi 215, Rio Vermelho, Salvador, CEP 41940360. I chose this hotel based on my research of the area and a review on booking.com. As you can see from the pictures, this is a beautiful hotel with an infinity outdoor pool, overlooking the ocean. The room is spacious and very clean. Rio Vermelho is an affluent beach neighborhood that is accessible by buses. We took the buses and a taxi while exploring the city.
Disclosure: The link to the hotel above is an affiliate link that will take you directly to the hotel at booking.com. This is how I booked my stay at this particular hotel. There is no extra cost to you but I'll receive a commission if you book your stay. This will help me to continue maintaining my website. Thank you very much in advance!
