Where is San Diego?
Where Did We Stay?
My family stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn in San Diego/Mission Valley, 1865 Hotel Circle South, Mission Valley, San Diego, CA 92108. This is your typical Residence Inn with a breakfast buffet. It is clean and centrally located in downtown, Coronado Island, and near beaches.

Here are some of the activities we enjoyed in San Diego:
- SeaWorld: This was our first time to SeaWorld and we had a blast! This is definitely the highlight of our trip.
- San Diego Zoo: It is really a nice zoo but a lot of walking up and down some pretty steep inclines so it can be a bit tiring, especially in the summer heat. It is a good idea to start your tour of the zoo with the free bus tour in order to get an aerial overview of the zoo and to plan and mark the areas you want to explore.
- USS Midway Museum: The USS Midway has been converted into an awesome aviation museum with some of its older staff that served on this ship. Really interesting and definitely worth a visit to learn of its history and combat role.
- Old Town: This is located in the historic center of San Diego, a really interesting place. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to do a lot of walking if you want to explore this beautiful historic neighborhood. Old Town was California's first settlement. The main square has a stage with live music and unique shops and restaurants.
- Balboa Park: This park is huge! There is so much to see and do in this park. We spent Sunday afternoon exploring the park. There are gardens and museums to see. There is live street music and food. We really had a wonderful time exploring this park.
- Litty Italy and Gaslamp Quarter: Great places for restaurants at night.
- Corando Island: The famous Hotel del Corando and its charming village along with a beautiful beach are definitely worth a visit. You can spend the entire day here with your family, which is what we did by exploring the charming village, having lunch, and spending most of our time at the beach.
- La Jolla Village: This is a lively neighborhood with a small town feel. Great for shopping and dinning. The Cove is certainly unique with its view over the bay and the sea lions on the shore. It can be a bit smelly from the sea lions and birds but definitely worth the visit and experience.
- Sunset Cliffs: A popular spot to view an absolutely stunning sunset. My son likes to take pictures of sunsets so this is his favorite spot.
- Beaches: We enjoyed the Del Mar beach and Coranado beach.
